Evangeline Parish has a population of over 35,000 people, and the incorporated towns range in size from about 9,000 people in Ville Platte to about 400 in Chataignier and Turkey Creek. The parish is also home to the State Arboretum, adjacent to Chicot Park, and to Crooked Creek Recreational Area near Pine Prairie.
Though a great place to relax and enjoy the beautiful outdoors, Evangeline Parish is the proud home of industrial locations for Cameron Valves and Cabot Corp., as well as home to Mercy Regional Medical Center, Savoy Medical Center, Pine Prairie Energy Center storage facility and a host of locally owned businesses with a long history of success.
A key economic development tool for Evangeline Parish is their recently named 60-acre SmartSite. The SmartSites program was developed by Cleco Power to assist Cleco communities in attracting business, creating jobs and supporting existing business development efforts. Cleco SmartSites are certified by McCallum Sweeny Consulting and meet site-readiness criteria, which reduces risks to business and industry and increases speed to market.
The Ville Platte site is located near I-49, and the area offers a skilled labor force and a competitive operating cost environment.
“Gaining this certification is one of the best ways to attract new business to the Evangeline Parish area,” said Dr. William A. Ward, Evangeline Parish Industrial Board chairman. “With this property, we can now compete on a national level and attract the attention of businesses that may have overlooked us in the past. We are excited about the opportunities this certification brings as we continue to work to grow our parish.”
Evangeline Parish Police Jury works in conjunction with Acadiana Economic Development to be a catalyst for economic development and provide information and additional resources to new and expanding businesses interested in Evangeline Parish.
